Inkscape

Filed under: Computery Crap — Sandy Thomson @ 11:51 pm

So the last few days I have been messing around with Inkscape, which is a seriously nice open source vector art program. I went trailbuilding on Saturday and the guy in charge (who works for the Forestry Commission) said that we could (and should) get a run of t-shirts printed to promote things a bit. So I went away and thought up some ideas, my first idea was ok but I was quite new with the application so it ended up looking pretty poor, however this is an attempt of my latest idea:

Charlie don't dig trail

Back in June I broke my mobile phone at a bike race, which you probably know about by now if you have tried to phone me. Last week I splashed out on a second hand Sony Ericsson K750i, so I have now officially turned into a ponsey git!

I also have the most awesome ringtone - montage from the Asspen South Park episode! Oh dear oh dear what have I become? I better face it, London here I come…!

  1. I’ve got one of those phones, it’s ok apart from when it decides that it’s joystick won’t work. Mine has also developed a very strange problem with the speaker, where everyone appears to be scuba diving or something.

I shouted at you last tuesday as you zoomed down past Pleasance, no response! :o)

  2. Oh yeah, and Inkscape is pretty nifty considering it’s free. If you find it’s as good as Illustrator for you, maybe worth trying out The Gimp as a Photoshop replacement. Similar idea, but raster rather than vector focused.

Right, must get back to the loveliness that is Rails…

  3. Man I am a bit special needs at times on the bike, was probably on the way to the gym or something.

The gimp has slowly been getting better over the years, I started using the gimp v1.2 (I think) back around 2001 or something in the CS labs, and it was pretty shit then. However I have to say, now it is quite stable and pretty decent - I never used to use photoshop very much so I have not much to compare it to really.

What is Rails? Ruby on Rails? :-)

  4. I played with inkscape but I think I want to get a cheapo tablet first.
